Storing and Selling your Receipts
As I write this, I’m sitting in Las Vegas. I see people here in casinos, mindlessly trying to get rich quick. Almost always, these people end up wasting their time and money and end up with nothing from their efforts. It was this same “get rich quick” attitude that led me to click on the “penny hoarder” link on Facebook. It said it had forty unique ways to start making money today. I was curious and so I clicked. The list started with some ridiculous ideas. I didn’t want to be a couch potato for three months for NASA, and although I’m a prime physical specimen, I wasn’t comfortable with the idea of donating sperm. The list continued by telling me about some apps, such as FOAP, Inbox Dollars, and ShopKick. I wasn’t too thrilled with these. Out of all of the apps the Penny Hoarder listed, the one that has been practical and good for me has been Receipt Hog. Although it’s not a get rich quick app, I love it.
Receipt Hog:
Receipt Hog is a marketing research company. Their app allows you to sell your receipts to them for their research purposes. This app isn’t a big money maker, but it is still worth your time and efforts. Over the last six months, I have made $10 from this app. That’s not much. After about two months I got really frustrated with it and quit using it for a while. I later was interested in an app that would save digital copies of receipts. It is always good to have copies of receipts, but having hundreds of scraps of paper around is a mess. I went back to Receipt Hog and discovered that it stored the digital copies of all of my receipts and that I could re-download them at any time. Knowing this, I started using it much more, and cashed out within a couple months. I especially like that I can earn money from this at the same time as I make money from my Grocery Rebate Apps and my Walmart App.
Saving Receipts:
Having copies of your receipts is a good thing, and there are many reasons why. Have you ever wanted to return something and couldn’t find a receipt? Have you ever been audited? Have you ever had to turn in expense reports? Have you ever wanted to see how much you are spending on certain things for budgeting purposes? Have you ever tried to make a company make good on a warranty, but they require a receipt? Do I need to continue? It’s a smart financial decision to save your receipts, but it’s even smarter to be paid to be smart.
How to use Receipt Hog:
The app is extremely easy to use. Getting started with the app does require an approval process. I remember it being quick and easy. Once you do that, all you have to do is take a picture of the receipt in the app and it rewards you. You can cash out in $5 increments in either PayPal or Amazon gift cards.
Other apps:
In doing research for writing this, I discovered two other receipt apps that pay you for your receipts. According to my research, Receipt Pal is about as good as, or better than receipt hog. The downside of that is that they aren’t accepting new users. I’ll continue to watch them and if they do change that, I’ll quickly report it.
Yaarlo is the other receipt app. This one has the lowest reviews and sounds like it has the most bugs. I just downloaded it and will give a better report on it in a few months. If you want to try it along with me, use my referral code, and it says it’ll add $1 to both of our accounts. I didn’t start with a referral bonus and it hasn’t credited me with a $1 bonus, so if you do want to use this app, use a referral code! Mine is LANCEMER813.
If you know of any other receipt buying apps, share them in the comments below, and include any referral code you have! I’ll try it out!
Great post Lance.
ReplyDeleteI am now a fan of Yaarlo! In five days of use I have gotten back $.30. That might not sound like a lot, but it's quick and easy and free money for the taking!
