Why Aren't More People Using The Walmart App?
I am not an environmentalist, but I pick up littered receipts when I am walking into Walmart. I pick up pennies too, but receipts are far more valuable. Have you ever noticed the QR code, the square thing you can scan with a smart phone, at the bottom of the receipts? Walmart has a savings catcher in their app that allows you to scan that part of the receipt and it searches nearby stores and will price-match different items you bought, and will credit you some money if other stores are selling the same item for cheaper. Since this takes some effort, many people don't scan their receipts, so I do it for them. I look like I'm helping the environment, but I'm helping myself to the money that these people could have been getting back, had they put the effort in.
Odds are you're not as crazy as I am. Most people don't pick up pennies, let alone soggy receipts. I'm weird, I get it. I do know people that look through Walmart garbage cans for receipts people throw away. I'm not that crazy, but sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do. You should at least be sure to scan your own personal receipts though. Between my wife and I, we have gotten about $30 from the Walmart app in about 8 months. As far as grocery apps go, this puts this one in a firm second, right behind Ibotta. About $5 of that is from receipts I picked up, so $25 is what you're looking at if you're not picking up receipts.
The savings are only one reason why you should do this, although that was enough for me to get started. The second reason is because of Walmart's Instawatch program with Vudu. Vudu is an online video library service. You can set it up for free and it stores your videos in the cloud. Walmart will instantly add a digital copy of a qualifying movie you buy to your Vudu account. This is nice when Walmart has a great deal on a DVD. I even know of people that buy movies for the digital copy and then sell these movies again on the Facebook marketplace. Scanning the Walmart receipts with the savings catcher will also add movies to Vudu, if you've linked your Walmart account and your Vudu account, which is obviously recommended. Since I'm crazy and pick up receipts, I have gotten a couple movies from this. I have a copy of the movie Grease, and a copy of The Egg and I. Both older movies, and not ones I would have ever purchased, but I got them for free! In fact, I made money from one of the receipts that I got a movie with. That's my favorite price.
The Walmart app is easy to use, and any savvy shopper should be using it. I really don't know why more people aren't using it. I don't know why people litter either, but I'm currently benefiting from both.

Remember to share this if you can think of anyone on your friends list that might benefit from saving money, and you think this could help them.
